Materials Manager, Knapheide Truck Equipment Company, Buda, TX

General Description:

This person will be responsible for the planning, procurement, and conveyance of all materials coming into and out of the facility.

Position Expectation Statements:

In this role, the individual must successfully manage the supply chain, assure proper planning and delivery of material, and the implementation and accuracy of all inventory management efforts within the organization.  This person must not only implement solid practices, but must also teach their staff and the rest of the organization how to assure the integrity of the processes that are put in place.

Depending on the skill level of the individual, the Materials Manager may assume cross-location buying functions in order to leverage buying opportunities and communize components.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assure that all material is available to support production
  2. Establish and maintain systems that assure that material is well planned and that inventory levels are optimized to support the business
  3. Manage the inbound and outbound logistics of inventory and completed product
  4. Assure a high level of confidence and control of the company’s raw material assets, up to and including regular audits of inventories and inventory controls
  5. Organize material both inside and outside the shop in order to provide a professional looking facility and a material environment that can be visually managed.
  6. Manage vendor relationships to assure proper quality, cost and delivery of incoming material
  7. Regular and predictable attendance.
  8. Work safely in a production environment wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required.
  9. Ability to interact with others.

Required Skills:

  • Previous work implementing lean manufacturing techniques and using 5S to organize the shop floor
  • Experience in managing a vendor base and leading negotiations in an effort optimize supplier / customer relationships
  • Strong PC skills, including a proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to confront and resolve problems while working as part of a cross functional team

Preferred Experiences and Training:

  • Previous experience in automotive or truck equipment industry
  • Experience in re-designing processes and / or experience in setting up a new material or inventory management system

Education Requirements:

  1. College degree in business or related field and / or APICS certification
  2. Formal education in material planning and inventory control
  3. At least 3-5 years of experience working in a material planning system or a perpetual inventory system
  4. At least 3 years of previous experience managing a functional team
  5. Strong PC skills, including a proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office
