Testing Specialist

Position Purpose:  Provide technical support for engineering analysis, prototyping and testing for product development and other activities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Set up FEA analysis based on direction from Project Manager and/or design responsible engineering lead in order to supply report on analysis results
  • Setup, monitor and troubleshoot engineering testing to validate findings of FEA analysis with physical testing
  • Design and coordinate manufacturing of test fixtures
  • Applying and utilizing strain gauges to obtain test results and correlate those results back to the analysis
  • Setup, monitor, and troubleshoot engineering testing activities, working with the Project Manager and/or design responsible engineering lead
  • Programming of PLCs, motion controllers and data acquisition systems
  • Provide assembly assistance with regards to (but not limited to):
    • Engineering prototypes
    • Current / Custom Product installation and test fit
    • Testing jigs and fixtures
    • Product validation samples
  • Aid in the development of installation procedures, time standards, and best practices as related to the proper assembly and installation of Knapheide products
  • Assist designers and engineers during the custom design process to assure best installation practices and to maximize installation efficiency
  • Performs other duties, assignments, and special projects assigned by the Engineering Manager, Project Manager, or Vice President of Engineering.

Position Requirements:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of a 3D CAD system and FEA analysis (SolidWorks and Abaqus preferred)
  • Must have adequate PC skills with a working knowledge word processing and spreadsheet applications
  • Must have good analytical and decision-making skills and be able to work accurately in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be adept in blueprint reading and be able to determine assembly requirements / processes there in
  • Ability to maintain focus and convey a positive attitude during challenging situations
  • Ability to interact successfully with all functional areas of the company
  • Must possess good organizational skills and willingness to take ownership of an area, keeping it clean and well laid out at all times
  • Willingness to travel with respect to the position activities (on site and off site) required (< 10%)

Preferred Abilities:

  • Ability to build prototype electrical harnesses, and various other electrical components to support current model and New Product Development projects
  • Basic understanding of 12V automotive electrical systems
  • Experience in commercial truck body installation
  • Knowledge of AS400
  • Active Knapheide Internal Welding Certification (or equivalent) required
    • If not in possession, the ability to gain weld certification(s)
  • Ability to apply and utilize strain gauges
