The Right Tools Matter and Why That Includes Work Trucks
With a name like Hawkins Water Tech in northern Indiana, one might think the company is based in Hawkins, the fictional Indiana town that serves as the primary setting for the Netflix series Stranger Things. Luckily, there are no supernatural events and government conspiracies connected to an alternate dimension here.

Staff at Hawkins Water Tech gather for a photo in front of their facility and fleet.
Instead, it’s a family-owned business in Middlebury, Indiana, that’s been providing the area with water treatment solutions for over 50 years. They offer sales, installation, maintenance, repair, testing or delivery of:
- Water Softeners
- Water Filtration Systems
- Chemical Treatment Supplies
- Bottled Water, Coolers & Dispensers
- Drinking Fountains & Bottle Fillers
- Water Quality
All of these products and services make sure people in homes and businesses have safe, clean and suitable water for drinking, cooking, laundry, dishwashing, bathing, swimming or other specialty uses such as industrial or laboratory applications.
Cargo vans, which Knapheide offers shelving, partitions, storage containers and other accessories for, encompass much of the Hawkins Water tech fleet. But when the team tackles bigger commercial projects, they often turn to their enclosed service truck. The one they have is built on a GMC Sierra 3500 HD chassis cab and upfitted with a Knapheide aluminum KUVcc body, plus other add-on equipment and accessories.

Technicians with Hawkins Water Tech access compartments and the cargo area of their Knapheide enclosed service truck.
"If our truck functions so well, where it can be very efficient in how we do our jobs, then we're able to serve our customers just that much better," said Mitch Hawkins, owner of Hawkins Water Tech.
Here are some notable features of this work truck:
- Drawer systems and bins – Organizes plumbing/electrical tools and parts
- Power inverter – Charges tool batteries from the truck while you work
- Rear vision camera – Provides clear view when reversing to avoid people or obstacles
- Rear warning lights – Signals caution to others when stopped or moving slowly
- Side access doors – Quickly reach into the cargo area or overhead compartments
- Truck bed slide – Pulls out cargo easily instead of crawling into the bed
- Bumper vises – Clamps pipes or other objects in place as they are worked on
- Door holders/hangers – Stores gauges, fittings and other miscellaneous cargo
Their technicians also keep portable gear aboard such as Milwaukee Packout stackable storage and a grab-and-go tool bag to help get the job done fast.
For Hawkins Water Tech, quality water has always been the mission. But with an enclosed service truck designed to keep everything in its place, their crews can focus less on searching and more on solving problems for customers.
